Keeping Tortoises in the UK? Greenhouses Make the Perfect Habitat

An unusual use for greenhouses is to keep tortoises. The conditions inside uk greenhouses are ideal to keep tortoises.

A house made from bricks or large stones can be made for the tortoises to sleep in or shelter when the sun is too hot.  Top soil mixed with sand is the ideal floor covering to use.  The tortoises can dig and bury themselves in the winter for hibernation.

If you hibernate them in greenhouses you must make sure the temperature does not drop below 4 degrees Celsius by using a greenhouse heater.  They can also lay their eggs in the soil if you are lucky enough to breed them.  Basking lamps can be hung from the shelves for when the sun is not out.
