Adding a Fire Pit to Your Outdoor Space

A fire pit is something that most people would appreciate having in their backyard. Fire pits can extend the seasonal “life” of your outdoor pace, allowing you to enjoy evenings outside well into the fall. It also makes a great centerpiece for entertaining, not to mention that you can actually even cook some rather delicious food on it if you are so inclined.

Traditionally many people think of outdoor fire pits as fairly simple holes that are dug into the ground and then lined with pavers and fire bricks to create a sort of outdoor fireplace. and this is indeed often the easiest and cheapest way to add a fire pit to your outdoor space as it is relatively easy to build and with a little hard work can be finished in a weekend.

That is not your only choice though if you are considering the idea of adding a fire pit to your outdoor space. Gas fire pits are becoming more and more popular and range from very simple and streamlined to large and elegant, even very ornate. Some people are now using fire pits as the centerpiece of their whole outdoor set up and are therefore choosing the kinds of gas fire pit that are really very visually striking.

Whatever kind of fire pits interest you though there is one important step that some people forget to take before making the investment. That is to check local ordinances to make sure that an open fire of that nature is actually allowed in your neighborhood. Some communities have rather strict burning bans in place that might limit your use of a fire pit at all or just at certain times of the year. Usually a call to the local building office is all it takes and it is better to be safe than sorry!
