I want to tell you a short tale of how one man changed the whole fabric of his life simply by using a keyboard and an internet connection.  This man lived in Manilla and was twenty two years old although many would have put him as slightly older.   I’m not sure what his real name was, but he liked to be called ‘Jack’ and that’s the name we’ll have to call him.

Jack was a clever young man, he’d studied Law at University and did pretty well.  His family were not rich and had made significant sacrifices to   ensure he was able to study to that level.  Needless to say these sacrifices put quite a lot of pressure on poor Jack’s shoulders – and expectation to do well for himself and look after his family was never stressed but he felt it all the same.

This alas was the problem 10 years ago a University degree in Law was pretty much a guarantee of a great career – but not any more.  Jack was the victim of several circumstances, but a glut of Law graduates and a downturn in the Global economy were the biggies.   Jack didn’t fall into a highly paid legal position, in fact after a few months Jack was struggling to find any work irrespective of his hard earned education.

But a University education has other benefits other than simply a qualification – Jack’s studies had given him a different outlook on the world and an enquiring mind that could work ‘outside of the box’.  He also like most young people was at ease on the internet, and it was to here he turned to try and improve his lot.

He started to find work on the internet that he couldn’t find in his countries capital.  First he started writing articles on law for a web site run by a group of internet marketers.  It didn’t pay much but it did pay his rent and a little money left for food.  From here he moved to writing for others on a variety of subjects – his English skills improved quickly and his client lists grew.  He was still writing for money but now at better rates and with a backlog of client requests.

Pretty soon it occurred to him that he knew lots of other educated graduates who were in a similar position looking for work.  Jack set up an internet marketing company that provided content and articles for a variety of websites across the globe.  He didn’t write so much himself not but was earning on every piece of media that his employees produced.

All this was achieved from a small internet cafe in Manilla, the net connection was slow and often he needed to bounce his connection of a selection of servers.  When he made enough money, he invested in a laptop and his own internet connection.  He also bought a few tools to make his online research easier,  he found a security suite recommended by the privacy site – Anonymous Proxies Organisation.   These tools also allowed him to bypass the various blocks and filters that exist online.

He now is pretty much set up, he has helped his family out and has a healthy bank account.  Jack did all this from pretty much nothing with only his education and initiative.  If you’re sitting in a cafe now with an internet connection – it’s possible for you to change your life too.  That’s if you want to of course……..
